Boom bap, one of the listed genres, is generally characterized by drum-break-based production, often sampled from vinyl recordings, with an emphasis on prominent kick-and-snare patterns typical of hip-hop recordings from the late 1980s and 1990s. Jazz rap, the other listed genre, is generally associated with the incorporation of jazz samples or jazz-influenced instrumentation, such as horns, double bass, or piano lines, layered under rapped vocals. These are general characteristics associated with the two genre categories rather than descriptions specific to this artist’s own vocal delivery or production choices.
